These estimates are presented in a new issue of ‘Comments on the State and Business’ by the HSE Centre of Development Institute.
According to preliminary data from Russia’s Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), in the second quarter of 2015, the drop in Russia's GDP reached 4.6% versus 2.2% in the first quarter (over the corresponding periods of the previous year). This drop in basic economic activities in the second quarter was even greater at 6.2% year-on-year. At the same time, removing the seasonal factor indicates that the decline in GDP in the second quarter slowed somewhat; in the first quarter, it was 3.5% compared to the previous quarter, and in the second quarter it was only 2.2%. A certain improvement in the situation by the end of the first half of the year speaks to the dynamics of basic economic activities in June.
