HSE University has launched its first official men’s and women’s rafting teams, coached by Nikita Zhuravlev—a graduate of the Bachelor’s programme in Media Communications at the Faculty of Creative Industries, President of the Moscow Rafting Federation, and founder of the rowing club Academia. This season, the teams are preparing for six key races as part of the amateur league. In an interview with the HSE News Service, the coach explains how this marks a unique milestone.

Today, we are excited to share the story of Giovanny Simon Machado—a graduate of the Master’s programme 'Applied and Interdisciplinary History "Usable Pasts"'. Now, he is a professor at the Department of Social Work at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil. This May, Prof. Machado came back to Russia as a participant of the HSE University–St Petersburg International Partners’ Week 2025.

Daria Mazur has wanted to pursue science since she was 13 years old—ever since she discovered in the seventh grade that she was good at physics. From Student to Pro: Making the Knight's Move
HSE University has hosted the Career Gambit student festival organised by the HSE Chess Club. The festival offered a unique platform for dialogue between students and prospective employers. Participants not only enthusiastically developed their game strategies but also engaged in discussions about careers and real employment opportunities. It turned out that playing chess is not just an intellectual competition but also an opportunity to connect, network, discuss professional interests, and explore future collaboration from a fresh perspective.

Moses Oluoke Omopekunola, from Nigeria, is a second-year student of the Science of Learning and Assessment (SOLA) programme. Intent on pursuing a career in psychometrics, he has already joined the PhD programme in Education to deepen his knowledge of the theory and methodology of learning. Turning Limitations into Opportunities: HSE Round Table Explores Employment for Students with Disabilities
Around 11 million people in Russia live with a disability. Of these, approximately 27% are of working age, yet only one in four is employed. HSE University and the Bank of Russia jointly organised a round table titled ‘Employment Practices for Students with Disabilities and Health Limitations.’
